You’re on shift with nine servers. Vulnerabilities keep landing, using real headlines from the security feeds on my vulnerability feeds page. Patch each one before it gets exploited. The catch is the same one I have at home and at work: patching means a reboot, and you can’t take everything down at once.
Patch the servers before their vulnerabilities get exploited. Patching reboots a server, and only 3 may be down at once.
How to play
- Amber and red servers have a vulnerability and a countdown. Click them to patch: they reboot for a few seconds, and you score more for critical ones and for being quick.
- Only three servers can be down at once. Try to patch a fourth and the change gets rejected, so pick your order.
- Purple is a zero-day: there’s no patch yet, so click to isolate the server until there is one.
- If a countdown runs out, the server is compromised. Click it to rebuild from backup, which takes a while. Three compromised at the same time and the incident is declared: game over.
- Leaving the tab ends your shift, because pausing would let you dodge the timers.
The real version
At home I don’t play this game: my servers patch themselves overnight with my Ubuntu auto update script, and Home Assistant tells me if one is behind or needs a reboot. The three-down rule is real, though. Rebooting everything at once is how a patch night turns into an outage. There are more games on the games page.
